Counts are licenses, not people: a person licensed in two states counts in each, and a multistate nursing license counts once, in the state that issued it. Residents are the Census Bureau's July 1, 2025 estimates.
Every license the table counts can be checked on the lookup of the board that issued it. How to verify a Texas physician's license
We counted the licenses each state board lists as active in its own file on October 1, 2026.
